I’ve been an entrepreneur for years, with the occasional stint as an employee (including right at the very beginning of my working life), but I’ve always felt that passion. I’ve always had that urge to turn all the ideas running through my head into action. That’s how I started my first business: my own publishing company. A tip from my uncle! I was in the process of writing down my memoirs about my trip to Nicaragua as a teenager. I really enjoy writing, and I thought: surely more people would want to read this. But when I started, it was pretty dull, and I thought: Who’s actually going to buy this? So I reworked it and turned it into a sort of movie script—like Jane searching for her Tarzan in the jungle.
My uncle is a printer
So I was right in the thick of things. But he said, “Start your own publishing company, and you’ll be able to manage your own income and expenses.” And that’s how my entrepreneurial adventure began!
But there was so much more to come after that!
My own line of hammam towels, a call center, another line of card decks, and so on and so forth. That’s how I’ve sold products, shut things down, or reoriented my ideas. I’ve had employees, worked with freelancers, taken on projects on my own, outsourced work, and so on.
I love bringing my ideas to life and seeing how they make others happy.
But what I enjoy most of all is building something from scratch! Of course, it has to be profitable—after all, we’re not a charitable organization; we’ve got to make a living!
Anyway, that’s how I like it—I see lots of opportunities and know how to connect people. As a result, I’ve built up a nice network, and I enjoy having coffee with people and then spending hours philosophizing about ideas, opportunities, thinking outside the box, and taking on challenges!
That’s why I love helping others with this! And how great is it that I can now share all those experiences with others? They talk about the pitfalls I’ve faced, and I love hearing that I’ve given them new ideas. Seeing new opportunities, but also hearing that they’ve tried it themselves, it didn’t work at first, and now it does. I love it!
